Will you be able to request a Certificate of Good Standing on MassTaxConnect?

Yes. A Certificate of Good Standing can be requested in MassTaxConnect for both businesses and individuals.

What is the difference between the Certificate of Good Standing and a Letter of Compliance?

Both were merged into the Request a Certificate of Good Standing-Tax Compliance or a Corporate Tax Lien Waiver.

The Certificate is available for:

  • Corporations 
  • Individuals 
  • Sole Proprietors 
  • Non-Profits 
  • Partnerships
  • LLCs
  • LLPs 
  • Trusts
  • Any other entity registered and filing taxes in Massachusetts.

What is a Certificate of Good Standing?

Individuals, Corporations, and other organizations often need proof that they are in good standing with the Commonwealth, i.e., that all tax liabilities have been met, in order to:

  • Obtain financing 
  • Sell their business 
  • Renew licenses or
  • Enter into other business transactions.

How do I request a Certificate of Good Standing?

The best way to request a Certificate of Good Standing is to:

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select the Request a certificate of good standing hyperlink in the Other Actions section under the More… tab. 

If you are an Individual who does not have a logon, you can:

  • Request a Certificate of Good Standing directly from the MassTaxConnect homepage.
  • In the Individual section, select the Request a certificate of good standing hyperlink.

If you are a business that reports your Massachusetts Corporation taxable income under another FEIN and do not have a logon, you can:

  • Request a Certificate of Good Standing directly from the MassTaxConnect homepage.
  • In the Business section, select the Request a certificate of good standing hyperlink.

Why can't I submit my application?

You can't submit an application if you have:

  • Outstanding liability 
  • Unfiled returns or
  • Other issues with your accounts.

You must file and pay for all overdue periods and remedy any other situations before filing for a Certificate of Good Standing.

Can I reprint the Certificate?

Yes. You can reprint the certificate.

To reprint your certificate:

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect
  • Navigate to the More… tab and select the View Letters link in the Letters panel.

You can filter the list of letters by entering Certificate of Good Standing in the filter bar.

How to request a Professional License Renewal?

To request a Professional License Renewal:

  • Log in to MassTaxConnect.
  • Select the More tab.
  • Select Request a Certificate of Good Standing in the Other Actions panel.
  • In the drop-down menu, select Professional License Renewal.
  • Provide the necessary information to complete the application.

The application will come directly to DOR and assigned to an examiner for review. 

A memo will be sent to the Licensing Board to release the license, if you have properly:

  • Filed all your returns and paid everything and
  • Remedied any other situations or
  • Made the first payment of your Payment Agreement.

Please note that the Licensing Board does not accept a Certificate of Good Standing.
