Second-Class Petty Officer Ed Flynn

United States Navy & Navy Reserves

Second-class petty officer Flynn deployed twice in the Persian Gulf and later worked as a probation officer in the Suffolk Superior Court, a state public safety official, and a legislative affairs specialist at the U.S. Department of Labor. He currently serves as Boston City Council President for District 2. 

Second-Class Petty Officer Ed Flynn 

Edward M. Flynn of South Boston, U.S. Navy (Retired) is a graduate of Don Bosco Technical High School and Salve Regina University. Flynn enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1987 and graduated from various U.S. Navy Leadership Programs, including the U.S. Department Defense Information School. As a naval reservist, Flynn was stationed at the U.S. Naval War College and provided media and communications training to senior enlisted leaders, U.S. military officers, and international students and officers.

After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on our nation, Flynn was recalled to active duty at Joint Task Force Guantanamo. Other military assignments included serving in the U.S. Navy’s 5 th Fleet - Central Command in Bahrain and throughout the Persian Gulf, and at the Naval Education and Training Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Flynn is a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2017, Flynn was elected to the Boston City Council. In 2021, his colleagues unanimously elected him as their City Council President. Flynn lives in South Boston with his wife Kristen and they are the proud parents of Caroline and Stephen
