Sex Offender Management Unit

History

The murder of twenty (20) year old Jonathan Wessner of Falmouth by convicted child rapist, Paul Nolin, exposed the State's seriously flawed system of dealing with sex offenders. As a direct result of this incident, District Attorney Michael D. O'Keefe and Sheriff James M. Cummings with the assistance of Senator Therese Murray pushed through the legislation to fund this "pilot" program.

District Attorney Michael D. O'Keefe is deeply committed to this program. It will give the District Attorney's Office the assets to take on the time-consuming process of seeking civil commitments for the most dangerous sex offenders.

"After I investigated and prosecuted the killer of Jonathan Wessner, it became clear to me that we must do more to put information into the hands of parents concerning sex offenders living in our communities"
-District Attorney Michael O'Keefe.
