State Transportation Building and MITC - Renovation and Modernization

The project includes the renovation of multiple office suites in the State Transportation Building (STB), Boston and Massachusetts Information Technology Center (MITC), Chelsea for Workplace Modernization, the Commonwealth’s strategic initiative to transform state administrative offices and associated spaces to support hybrid work. Phase 1 of the project includes a new headquarters for Department of Conservation and Recreation in the STB and the Massachusetts Environmental Police at MITC. Phase 2 is in the planning stage for additional occupants at the STB and MITC.

Project Features

The project’s goals include the following:

  • Shift some Boston-area state administrative offices to buildings the Commonwealth owns rather than using leased spaces
  • Modernize infrastructure and technology and create flexible and attractive workplaces for evolving work functions and styles
  • Create a healthy and sustainable work environment including more natural light in interior spaces
