Supreme Judicial Court Job Opportunity - Reporter to Standing Advisory Committee on Rules of Appellate Procedure

Application open until May 25, 2026.

The Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court seek applicants for the position of Reporter to the Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Appellate Procedure.

The Reporter’s primary responsibilities are to (1) undertake research useful to the Committee at the request of the Committee chair, and (2) draft the "notes" that accompany changes to the rules in consultation with the Chair and Committee members. The notes provide supplemental and explanatory information, including citations to relevant legal authorities, to assist users in understanding the changes and applying the applicable rules. The notes are the work of the Reporter and are not approved or reviewed by, nor are they binding, on the court. A Reporter must possess in-depth knowledge of federal and state appellate rules, including knowledge of current developments in other jurisdictions. Law school faculty are particularly encouraged to apply. The Reporter is compensated at $50 per hour for up to 50 hours of work each year.

To apply, please send a cover letter and CV to timothy.maguire@jud.state.ma.us on or before May 25, 2026.
