Technical Support Program

The Office of Local and Regional Health provides the resources, tools, training, and technical support for local public health to meet their unique needs and to promote and protect the health of their communities.

The Technical Support Program provides timely, high-quality programmatic guidance to local public health entities through a comprehensive and collaborative approach. Technical support can come from the Office of Local and Regional Health staff, Massachusetts Health Officers Association subject matter experts, the Massachusetts Association of Health Boards, the Local Public Health Nurse Consultant Program at the UMass Amherst Elaine Marieb College of Nursing, or Growing a New Heart, who offer support on ways to promote racial equity to enhance the effectiveness and capacity of local public health.

Technical support is available to all municipalities, regardless of participation in the Public Health Excellence Grant Program.

Types of technical support

  • Data support including support and analysis to leverage data effectively
  • Intermunicipal agreement (IMA) support to develop, negotiate, execute, and implement a legal agreement that supports collaboration between municipalities
  • Local political support includes helping to secure buy-in for shared services
  • Organizational competencies for leaders and managers including contracting services, relationship management, and guidance on funding opportunities
  • Performance Standards such as environmental public health enforcement through reviewing documentation, inspection forms, and assistance meeting minimum requirements
  • Racial and health equity support to develop and integrate racial and health equity goals and action steps into your work
  • Sustainability includes community partnership development, partner mapping, and improved sharing of resources
  • Workforce development including training opportunities, credentialing, workforce standards, recruitment, retention, and career development

Request technical support

Please complete the Technical Support Request Form to request technical support. A Technical Support Provider will be assigned to you based on the type of support requested. Once matched, you will receive an email connecting you with the assigned provider who will coordinate the initial meeting to discuss next steps.
