Construction Lookahead – July 19 to July 24

PFC Ralph T. Basiliere Bridge

Activities

• Relocation of National Grid electric and Verizon telephone cables. 
• Installation of platforms below the bascule span (section of the bridge between the towers) to allow access for steel repairs preparatory to placing all traffic on the western (upstream) side of the bridge.

Traffic Impacts by Time of Day

• For the relocation of National Grid electric and Verizon telephone cables:
  • Intermittent daytime closures of the western sidewalk between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM for the week addressed by this lookahead. Pedestrians will be directed to use the eastern sidewalk. Pedestrians may request assistance from the police detail when crossing the intersections at either end of the bridge. 
  • For the installation of access platforms below the bascule span, all work will be behind barrier without impacts to traffic 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM for the week addressed by this look ahead.

Noise impacts:

• Noise levels will be somewhat elevated above normal traffic operations with vehicles running to deliver material and personnel as well as power tools to relocate electrical and telephone cables.  A vacuum truck will be operated to assist in the excavation of test pits, but sound curtains will be used to reduce noise levels.

Route 125/Middlesex Street

The Bradford Rail Trail is operating as normal at this time.

Activities

• Relocation of National Grid electric and Verizon telephone cables. 

Traffic Impacts by Time of Day

• For the relocation of National Grid electric and Verizon telephone cables:
  • Overnight, intermittent single lane closures of State Route 125 matching the lane closure on the Basiliere Bridge on Sundays through Thursdays, between 8:00 PM each night and 4:00 AM the following morning. At least one lane of vehicle traffic will be maintained in both directions.

Noise impacts:

• Noise levels will be somewhat elevated above normal traffic operations with vehicles running to deliver material and personnel as well as power tools to relocate electrical and telephone cables.  A vacuum truck will be operated to assist in the excavation of test pits, but sound curtains will be used to reduce noise levels.

Route 125/Merrimack Street/Water Street

Access to the Dempsey Board walk is as normal at this time.

Merrimack River below the Bridge

Activities

• Installation of platforms below the bascule span (section of the bridge between the towers) to allow access for steel repairs preparatory to placing all traffic on the western (upstream) side of the bridge.

River Impacts by Time of Day

• For the installation of access platforms below the bascule span, skiffs will be present at times in the area around the bascule span between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM for the week addressed by this look ahead.  The navigation channel will remain open.  Boaters should proceed with caution and tune to UHF Marine Channel 13 for additional information.

Noise impacts:

• Noise levels will be similar to boating operations with outboard motors running to power skiffs around the piers at the bascule span.  

South Kimball Street laydown site

Activities

• Preparatory work for future operations.

Traffic Impacts by Time of Day

• All work will be within the yard without impact to traffic, Monday-Thursday, 7:00AM to 3:00PM for the period addressed by this lookahead.  Single vehicles may enter or exit the yard at any time during work hours to deliver personnel or equipment.

Noise impacts:

• Noise levels will be similar to normal traffic operations with vehicles running to deliver material and personnel as well as power tools operating.
