Travel impacts
The bridge carrying West Roxbury Parkway over the MBTA Commuter Rail Needham Line is closed to all vehicle traffic and pedestrians until December 2026. There is a detour for vehicles and pedestrians via Belgrade Avenue for the duration of the closure.
The MBTA Needham Commuter Rail will suspend service from 11:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16 through Monday, October 19. Rail service will resume to its normal schedule on the following Tuesday morning. Find the most up-to-date information about commuter rail service.
Operations
Over the next two weeks, the Contractor will be working daytime hours (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.) within the work zone on the roadway and under the bridge. Work will take place seven days a week. During the weekend of suspended MBTA service, the Contractor will be working 24 hours a day. Daytime activities may include:
- Installing structural anchors and guardrail elements
- Installing precast bridge units followed by closure pours
Overall project status
The Contractor has begun the process for replacing the bridge.
Travel tips
Please take care to pay attention to all signage as it is posted. Police details, changes in lane markings, temporary controls such as barriers and traffic cones, signage, and other tools will be used throughout the project to control traffic and create safe work zones within the project limits.
