Services   at Fairwinds Center (CBHC)

Individualized Programs

We offer a range of services for our fellow islanders who face mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship struggles, a substance use disorder, and a wide range of behavioral health challenges. Our compassionate, professional team of clinicians provides a continuum of community-based services, including individual psychotherapy, medication management, substance misuse treatment, and family and couples therapy. All services at Fairwinds are confidential, provided without judgment, and designed for flexibility to fit your schedule.

Family Services

The focus of family therapy is to consider the goals of the family as a whole. A clinician assists in establishing family goals and identifying desired outcomes. Throughout the course of treatment, the clinician facilitates the processes of communication, skills-building, and boundary-setting. Other therapeutic tools and treatment methods will help the family build on its strengths as a way of successfully reaching satisfactory outcomes.

In-Home Counseling

Fairwinds provides in-home and community-based services for youth as part of the CBHI, or Community Behavioral Health Initiative, treatment model that includes in-home therapy and therapeutic mentoring. These services benefit the youth served as well as their entire family system and network of natural supports. A master’s level clinician and a paraprofessional often work in collaboration with the child or adolescent as well as the family and other collateral contacts and supports to offer a structured, consistent, family-centered, strength-based therapeutic model.

Community Support Program (CSP)

This program provides community-based services to adults with a mental health or substance use diagnosis including those whose challenges interfere with their ability to access essential medical services.

Peer Recovery Coaching

Peer Recovery coaches promote recovery by serving as a guide and mentor for individuals recovering from alcohol and substance dependence. Peer Recovery coaches empower the people in their personal journey towards recovery by offering hope while providing advocacy, guidance, support, and knowledge.

While Peer Recovery coaches at Fairwinds do not provide clinical services, they often become a very important member of a person’s recovery support network. Recovery coaches help motivate and encourage recovery during times of struggle, and may be called on to support individuals when they are experiencing difficult emotional states.

Addiction Treatment and Recovery Therapy

As part of the treatment plan for those with substance use disorders, Fairwinds provides individual evidence-based therapy to support recovery. In therapy, clients learn about their addiction, overcome underlying challenges, develop skills to help them in their recovery, and are supported in finding lasting wellness and sobriety. We can also support the facilitation of Medication-Assisted Therapy (MAT).

Individualized Medication Plans

Proper medication administration is a crucial aspect of many treatment plans at Fairwinds. Our triple board-certified staff psychiatrist and psychiatric nurse practitioner can both prescribe and manage medications as appropriate to people of all ages, and our developmental pediatrician can prescribe and manage medications for children and adolescents.

If medication management services are to be a part of your treatment plan for recovery, it is critical to find a medication that feels right to best treat your symptom profile. You will work in collaboration with your medication provider and therapist to monitor medication progress, any adverse side effects that may arise, and make changes as needed to your medication plan to find the best solution that works for you. Our professionals are thoroughly trained to follow the appropriate policies and procedures for medication management, in accordance with Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) principles and relevant local and federal legislation.

Urgent Behavioral Healthcare Clinic (UBHC)

Need to talk to someone immediately? Schedule a same-day remote appointment through our Urgent Behavioral Healthcare Clinic (UBHC) services. Appointments are offered at 5:00 pm every weekday, and should be made via phone call or text message in the morning to ensure a same-day consultation.

Psychological and Developmental Assessment and Testing

Proper assessment can be a valuable tool for adults and children. We have two specialists (an MD and a PhD) who provide testing to determine your child’s strengths and challenges, how best to support their learning, and which, if any, treatment or medication protocol is best. If teachers report that your child struggles to focus, has difficulty self-regulating, or is not getting the most out of school, a proper diagnosis may lead to the development of a comprehensive Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for your child. Fairwinds also offers a wide range of psychological, diagnostic, psycho-educational, and neuro-physical testing and assessments for adults as well.
