Management Certificate Program (MCP)

The Management Certificate Program is available to ONLY Executive Department managers in M99 titles.

The purpose of the Management Certificate Program is to equip managers in the public service sector with the essential competencies necessary to excel as leaders, drive organizational effectiveness, and positively impact the communities they serve. Through a comprehensive curriculum rooted in the principles of the Public Service Leadership Model—Becoming Self-Aware, Engaging Others, Leading Change, and Achieving Results—the program aims to empower participants to navigate complex challenges, foster collaboration, innovate, and deliver measurable outcomes aligned with their agency's mission and

This program is designed for self-motivated managers who are looking to enhance their leadership and managerial skills and are dedicated to the successful mission of their agency and secretariat. Offered once per year, this intensive program includes a mix of virtual and in-person sessions. Participants will have an opportunity to engage with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and network with talented colleagues from across the Executive Department. 

To participate in this program, managers must apply and be admitted. Each year applications open during the summer and the program runs from early fall to late spring. Participants can expect 7.5 hours of work per month. 

Management Certificate Program Topics

Eight classes will be held virtually on Zoom. Two classes will be held in-person – location and dates TBD. Below are the core topics covered in this program:

  • Strategic Thinking and Planning for Leaders
  • Leading in the Commonwealth
  • DiSC: Deepen Your Understanding of Yourself and Others
  • Crucial Conversations
