Marine Invasive Species Program

Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) works to monitor and reduce the spread of invasive species in coastal waters.

Marine invasive species are plants, animals, and other organisms (like viruses) that are not known to naturally occur in a certain area but have been introduced by humans. These organisms—like the European green crab—can significantly impact the environment, economy, and public health. The Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Marine Invasive Species Program promotes effective monitoring and other efforts to reduce the spread of these species in coastal waters.
