Press Release  A Pittsfield couple died in an early morning fire at their home.

PITTSFIELDThe Pittsfield Fire Department received a 911 call at 3:55 this morning reporting a fire at a home on Bryan Street.  First units on the scene reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor of the dwelling.  A second alarm was sounded calling more manpower and equipment to the scene.

An elderly couple was found by fire fighters on the first floor of the home.  The male was transported to Berkshire Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.  The female died at the scene.  A third occupant of the home, a woman, was found outside the dwelling.  She was taken to Berkshire Medical Center where she was treated and released. 

The names of the victims are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Pittsfield Fire and Police Departments and state troopers assigned to the Office of the Fire Marshal.
