Boston — Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell today announced the appointment of Theresa Wilson to the State Ethics Commission.
“I am delighted to appoint Theresa Wilson to the State Ethics Commission. Her diverse experience as a seasoned litigator and racial equity thought leader will strengthen the commission’s ability to address ethics violations and promote trust in our government and institutions,” said AG Campbell.
“The members and staff of the State Ethics Commission look forward to working with Commissioner Wilson,” said David A. Wilson, Executive Director of the State Ethics Commission. “Her extensive experience in law, education, and public service will bring a valuable perspective to our work.”
“I am honored to be selected for appointment to the State Ethics Commission by Attorney General Andrea Campbell. I am particularly drawn to this position because it aligns with my enduring commitment to ensuring that public systems operate fairly, transparently, and in service of the people they are designed to protect,” said Theresa Wilson. “It is with gratitude and humility that I hope to bring an equitable lens to navigating complex ethical responsibilities, thereby strengthening integrity in public service and fostering public confidence. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.”
Wilson has served the New York Attorney General’s Office during two separate tenures, handling more than 100 state and federal cases including civil rights, wrongful death, and negligent supervision matters. Prior to that, Wilson worked as an attorney for the Committee for Public Counsel Services representing children and families and leading racial equity trainings. Wilson has also served as an assistant attorney general in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office Trial Division and as an attorney for the City of New York in its law department.
In addition to her vast legal experience, Wilson has worked as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University School of Law and Roxbury Community College and is a former Restorative Justice Trainer at the Suffolk University Restorative Justice Center. Wilson also served as a hearing officer for the Board of Bar Overseers.
Wilson is a leader in the racial justice space. She has led racial equity trainings at numerous high-profile organizations and created the racial equity internship program, the judicial academy pipeline program, and the “Why Race Matters” speaker series, which features race-equity leaders from across the country.
Wilson is also the current President of Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association where she leads the oldest-affinity bar in the Commonwealth and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. She also holds leadership positions in the American Bar Association and the National Bar Association addressing equity at a national and local level.
The five-member State Ethics Commission is a non-partisan, independent state agency which is responsible for the enforcement of the state’s Conflict of Interest and Financial Disclosure laws. The Commission’s mission is to foster integrity in public service in state, county, and local government; to promote the public’s trust and confidence in that service; and to prevent conflicts between private interests and public duties.
