Boston — State Auditor Suzanne M. Bump today released the results of an audit of Aditus Inc., a non-profit human-service agency in East Longmeadow. The audit found that the organization charged $22,136 in expenses that were unallowable according to state regulations and to its state contract. The audit examined the period of July 1, 2013 through December 31, 2015.
“Our audit found that Aditus inappropriately billed the state for items that were unallowable, and unrelated to the services for which the funds were intended,” Bump said. “It is critical that Aditus, and other social service providers that receive state money, document how they are spending that money to ensure they are responsibly using public funds and providing transparency to the taxpayers of the state.”
The expenses in question either lacked documentation to show what was purchased, were for non-program expenses such as gifts, catering, and alcohol, were interest and late fees on credit cards, or were for capital items. The audit recommends that Aditus works with the state to repay the expenses or refile the paperwork with proper documentation and identification.
Aditus, which was incorporated on July 1, 1983, provides services for people with developmental disabilities, including supported group employment, school-to-work transition, adolescent community residential services, individual supported employment, and community-based supported day services.
