Boston — State Auditor Suzanne M. Bump appointed Bora Chiemruom of Tyngsborough to serve on the Asian American Commission (AAC). Chiemruom was sworn in by Treasurer Deborah Goldberg at the State House on January 9, 2019.
Chiemruom, who is replacing Dr. John Naranja of Braintree, will serve on the commission for a term of three years, after which she is eligible for reappointment.
Currently, Chiemruom is the owner of Kravant Boutique in Lowell. Previously, she served as executive director of the AAC from 2015 to 2017, overseeing day-to-day operations and management. Since 2015, she has served as an advisory board member for the Institute for Asian American Studies. This past year, she spoke at the National Asian American Conference on Law and Public Policy at Harvard Law School. In 2016 and 2017, she co-chaired the Asian-Americans Pacific Islanders Civil Rights Forum in Boston. Chiemruom received her bachelor’s degree in history from Fitchburg State University in 1998 and attended graduate school at Lesley University.
The AAC, established in 2006, meets monthly with the goal of recognizing and highlighting the many contributions of Asian Americans to the social, cultural, economic, and political life of the Commonwealth, and to identify and address the needs and challenges facing Asian Americans in Massachusetts.
Bump’s other appointees to the AAC are Loan Thi Dao of Somerville and Vanna Howard of Tewksbury.
