Boston — On February 26, 2016, State Auditor Suzanne M. Bump appointed Dr. John Naranja to serve on the Massachusetts Asian American Commission (AAC). Naranja is the only Filipino-American on the commission.

Naranja, a Braintree resident, will serve on the commission for a term of three years after which he is eligible for reappointment

The AAC, established in 2006, meets monthly with the goal of recognizing and highlighting the many contributions of Asian Americans to the social, cultural, economic, and political life of the Commonwealth, and to identify and address the needs and challenges facing Asian Americans in Massachusetts.

A personal injury attorney with Diller Law, P.C. in Boston since 2013, Naranja previously worked as an orthopedic surgeon at Northern Maine Medical Center for seven years, and served in the United States Air Force Hospital 5th Medical Group stationed at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota for four years. In addition to his professional experience, Naranja is Secretary of the Philippine Medical Association of New England and is an investor and Board Member of Swamp Buck Restaurant.

Naranja holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Creighton University, a medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, and a law degree from the Northeastern University School of Law.

Bump’s other appointees to the AAC are Jennifer Cao of Chestnut Hill and Lydia Schroter of Upton.
