State Auditor Suzanne M. Bump appointed Meredith Barrieau as First Deputy Auditor.

BostonState Auditor Suzanne M. Bump yesterday appointed Meredith K. Barrieau to serve as First Deputy Auditor. Barrieau was sworn in by Bump during a ceremony at her State House office. As First Deputy Auditor, Barrieau will oversee audit operations for the Office of the State Auditor (OSA). She replaces Ken Woodland who is retiring after 34 years of service at the OSA.

“Ken’s presence and leadership will be missed, but I’m confident that with Meredith serving as First Deputy Auditor we will build on the successes that he helped make possible,” Bump said. “As First Deputy, Meredith will ensure we are ready for our 2020 external peer review, work to expand our federal and state partnerships, and implement new initiatives that will help us do our work more efficiently and effectively. I look forward to what she will accomplish in this role.”

Since joining the OSA in 2011, Barrieau has led the office’s last two successful peer reviews from the National State Auditor’s Association (2014 and 2017), revamped the office’s quality assurance and training units, and has implemented professional development programs for audit staff—including the office’s career path and internship programs.

Prior to joining the OSA, Barrieau worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 10 years, as part of both the audit division and advisory consulting practice. She is a certified public accountant, certified fraud examiner, and is also certified in financial forensics. She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Saint Anselm College in 2001.
