BostonState Auditor Suzanne M. Bump today appointed Philjay Solar of Dedham to serve on the Asian American Commission (AAC). Solar was sworn in by Bump during a ceremony at her State House office earlier today.

Solar, who is replacing Loan Thi Dao of Somerville, will serve on the AAC for a three-year term, after which he is eligible for reappointment.

This past May, Solar received his law degree from New England Law Boston. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Philippine-American Mainstream Advocacy for Non-partisan Associations (PAMANA) and is a longtime volunteer for the Massachusetts Youth Leadership Foundation. Previously, he interned for the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission in Boston, as well the State Inspector General’s Office. He was also selected as a rising “Forbes Fellow” for the Forbes 30 Under 30 2018 Conference held in Boston. From 2014 through 2016, he was an AmeriCorps Member serving with City Year Boston at the Curley School in Jamaica Plain.

The AAC, established in 2006, meets monthly to recognize and highlight the many contributions of Asian Americans to the social, cultural, economic, and political life of the Commonwealth, and to identify and address the needs and challenges facing Asian Americans in Massachusetts.

Bump’s other appointees to the AAC are Vanna Howard of Tewksbury and Bora Chiemruom of Tyngsborough.
