Boston — Auditor Suzanne M. Bump was joined by Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, Attorney General Maura Healey, and Treasurer Deborah Goldberg yesterday as they hosted Big and Little Sisters from Boston, who are supported by the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, for a conversation about empowerment and leadership to commemorate Women’s History Month. During the conversation, Bump, Polito, Healey, and Goldberg discussed their roles, their paths to elected office, and took questions from the Little Sisters.

“During Women’s History Month, we should not only look back on the female leaders who blazed a path for us, but also look ahead to the leaders of tomorrow, and fortify that path for them,” Bump said. “It is inspiring to talk with these future female leaders of Massachusetts. Conversations like these fill me with confidence that our state’s best days are still ahead of us.”

“Massachusetts’ women are building strong communities and leading by example all around us,” said Lt. Governor Karyn Polito. “I am proud to join Auditor Bump, Attorney General Healey, and Treasurer Goldberg to celebrate many of their legacies this month as we recognize their powerful stories and impart meaningful lessons to the next generation of young women.”

“More doors are open for women than ever before, and that’s something we should all celebrate. But it’s our responsibility to help pave the way for the next generation of female leaders, to make it a little easier than it was for us and for the countless female pioneers that came before us,” Attorney General Healey said. “I’m proud to join my esteemed colleagues today in meeting with these female leaders of tomorrow in celebration of Women’s History Month.”

"I was delighted to speak with these tremendous young women about my path to elected office," said Treasurer Deb Goldberg. "I told them to persevere despite the many obstacles they may face as women and to always follow their passions and pursue their dreams."

The conversation took place in Bump’s State House office. Ten Little Sisters attended, and were joined by their “Big Sisters.” This is the second year that Bump has hosted this event.

Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, which was founded in 1951, ignites girls’ passion and power to succeed through positive mentoring relationships with women and enrichment programs that support girls’ healthy development.
