Press Release  Auditor DiZoglio’s Bureau of Special Investigations Identifies Over $2 Million in Public Benefit Fraud in Q4 of FY24

Boston — Today, State Auditor Diana DiZoglio released the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) quarter four report. The report summarizes BSI’s work and initiatives to help make government work better by investigating, fraud, abuse, and illegal acts involving public assistance benefits throughout the Commonwealth. 

For quarter four, BSI investigated 1,235 cases. Of these, 176 were completed with fraud identified. Further details regarding these 176 cases may be found below.

• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)                         $1,901,925.00
• Medicaid                                                                                                     $245,858.79
• Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC)        $138,081.90  
• Department of Early Education & Care (EEC)                                       $19,263.57
• Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled, and Children (EAEDC)        $60,472.00

          Grand Total                                                                                                 $2,365,601.26
