Media Contact for Author and Court Leaders Address Audience at Lawrence Community Justice Support Center's Cultural Appreciation Event

Author Jennifer DeLeon shared stories about her life as a child of immigrants and a student in a school where she felt like she didn’t fit in, similar to the character in her book, Don’t Ask Me Where I’m From. Ms. DeLeon, the author of two books, spoke about her journey and the experiences that led to her life as a writer. She also discussed her plans to write children’s books that feature more children of color as characters.
Supreme Judicial Court Justice David Lowy spoke about the importance of diversity and each person celebrating and embracing who they are. Dr. Natoschia Scruggs, Chief Access, Diversity and Fairness Officer; John Laing, Chief Access, Diversity and Fairness Officer; and Pamerson Ifill, Deputy Commissioner-Pretrial Services also gave remarks. Singer Tracy Silver sang the National Anthem.
The event also included a facility tour, Historical Poster Series of the City of Lawrence, a “Where are you from?” map activity, and Latin instrumental music.
