Two of the graduates and their families attended the celebration in-person while the other three watched via livestream. Each of the graduates were presented with a gift box that contained a framed HiSET diploma, a small cake, and party favors.
Among the featured speakers were Jack Murphy, a HiSET Examiner from Cape Cod Community College; Mark Showan, vice-president of the Old Colony YMCA; Chantal Morrison, the CJSC’s Education Coordinator; and Terence Ryan, OCC Program Manager for Barnstable.
“The speakers focused on the appropriate and timely themes of flexibility, achievement in the face of adversity, the power of resiliency and the ability to create your own opportunities for success through further education,” Ryan said. “These are all of the things we hope to instill in our participants. We are very pleased and proud of the participants and this tremendous accomplishment of earning their HiSET certificate.”
The graduates’ Probation Officers also showed their support by attending the ceremony via live stream and in-person. They include: Barnstable Superior Court Senior Community Corrections Probation Officer Doug MacKie, Barnstable District Court Probation Officer Shauna Lydon, and Barnstable District Court Chief Probation Officer Ann MacDonald. Office of Community Corrections Deputy Director Patricia “Pat” Horne was also in attendance to congratulate the graduates.
