PITTSFIELD — The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office obtained a guilty verdict in a domestic violence trial.
On Monday, a Central Berkshire District Court jury found 37-year-old Korey Laviscount of Pittsfield guilty of single counts of assault and battery on a family or household member and strangulation.
The Commonwealth recommended a one-year sentence. Defense Counsel recommended six months. Judge Jennifer Tyne sentenced him to serve one year at the Berkshire County House of Correction.
On November 11, 2021, Pittsfield Police responded to a home after a 911 hang-up. Upon arrival, officers heard yelling and observed an injured victim. Police determined that as the victim attempted to leave the address during an argument, Laviscount pulled the victim to the ground and strangled the victim.
“I thank the Pittsfield Police Department for their response and investigation. Strangulation is a key indicator of potential lethality, and my office prioritizes prosecuting domestic violence and strangulation cases,” District Attorney Andrea Harrington said.
“I thank the victim for courageously testifying and the jury for carefully considering the facts and holding this defendant accountable.”
