Newburyport, Massachusetts — Beverly Police Officer Kevin Weafer, 52, of Beverly, pleaded not guilty today in Newburyport District Court to OUI second offense, carrying a firearm while intoxicated and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.  Judge Peter Doyle set bail at $1000 and ordered the defendant not to consume drugs and alcohol and to submit to random screens.

West Newbury Police arrested the defendant on Sunday, September 6th at Pipestave Hill Park after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated man looking for his dog at the park.  Police allege that the defendant was carrying his Beverly Police Department-issued firearm and that there was a half-empty bottle of vodka in his motor vehicle.

The defendant is scheduled to return to court on October 5, 2015 for a Pre-Trial Hearing.  He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Beverly Police Chief John LaLacheur immediately placed Officer Weafer on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
