Boston — Auditor Suzanne Bump today released the following statement:

“The Office of the State Auditor recently received a request from Roxbury Community College to audit the operations of the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center and the Roxbury Community College Foundation.  Audit staff have reviewed the documentation RCC provided and concluded that many of the concerns raised by the college go beyond simple mismanagement and involve alleged criminal activity. The Office of the State Auditor operates pursuant to the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), which require audit staff to exercise caution in pursuing indications of possible illegal acts so as not to interfere with potential future investigations, legal proceedings, or both. These standards also state that auditors may withdraw or defer further work on an audit or a portion of the audit in order to not interfere with a potential investigation. As such, the OSA had advised RCC to seek the assistance of law enforcement agencies to investigate these matters. OSA is ready and willing to provide any assistance or resources to assist in any future law enforcement investigation.”
