Probation staff at the Cambridge and Malden District Courts are co-hosting their first collaborative Law Day celebration on Friday, April 29, from 8:30 am to noon, at the Medford-based courthouse located at 4040 Mystic Valley Parkway.

This Law Day theme is “Toward a More Perfect Union: The Constitution in Times of Change.” Among the keynote speakers are Supreme Judicial Court Justice Serge Georges Jr., Attorney Charu Verma, and Cambridge Police Commissioner Christine Elow.

Students from several local high schools, including Malden High School, Mystic Valley Charter School, Everett High, Cambridge Rindge & Latin High, Arlington Catholic, and Belmont High will attend the event.

“We are excited about the celebration and the opportunity to introduce high school students to a unique learning experience about the legal profession and the justice system,” said Malden District Probation Officer Gianna Franco. “This event focuses on appreciating the role of law in our society and cultivating a deeper understanding of the legal profession.”

Law Day is commemorated on May 1 annually to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession, according to the American Bar Association. The celebration of Law Day dates back to 1958 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed that every year on May 1st, “We as a nation should remember with pride how our laws help people to be treated fairly and how our laws have inspired other countries to treat their citizens more fairly.”
