PittsfieldDistrict Attorney Paul J. Caccaviello announced today that his office has been awarded a Title II Formula Grant - 2018 Summer Programs administered by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, Office of Grants and Research.  The $11,000 grant will be used to support the Law Enforcement and Youth Partnership Summer Day Program offered in conjunction with and implemented by the Pittsfield Police Department.

80-100 students who recently graduated from 5th grade and are heading to middle school in the fall will attend along with several of their older peers who will serve as mentors.

The summer program focuses on substance abuse prevention, decision making, and assertiveness skills through participation in adventure based games, team building activities leadership exercises, and mentoring opportunities.

The program creates an opportunity for kids, law enforcement, educators, and youth service providers to engage in educational, recreational, and cultural activities that will build students’ self -confidence, sense of community, and community responsibility.

Caccaviello says, “I’m happy to partner with the Pittsfield Police Department on this prevention effort connecting student from around the city with adult role models in a summer learning environment that offers them friendship, outdoor fun, and support in making safe and healthy choices.”
