News  Fitchburg District Court hosts Cultural Appreciation Day featuring fun, food, and introduction to important community resource for homeless families

The Fitchburg District Court’s celebration featured guest speaker Ada Alvarado, Director of Operations for Opportunities for Hope Shelter, who shared information about the shelter for families which opened in December 2023 and can accommodate 23 families.

Fitchburg District Court Probation and Probation Officer Diamily Titus and her colleagues have been working closely with community agencies to provide backpacks filled with items for the homeless such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, lotion, and socks, etc.

The Fitchburg celebration was held on Friday in the courtroom which was decorated with children’s art work. A table filled with multicultural artifacts and filled a table in the center of the room as a long line for the many cultural dishes looped into the hallway.

Fitchburg First Justice Christopher LoConto, Chief Probation Officer Rebecca Ramirez-Abdella, and Clerk Magistrate Carol Vittorioso introduced the activities. Attendees enjoyed a Scavenger Hunt and Trivia games. Nhi Tran, was the winner of the Scavenger Hunt. Massachusetts Probation employees from the Massachusetts Probation Service Training and Operations Center (MTOC).
