Boston — Governor Maura Healey is calling on Massachusetts residents to observe a moment of silence at 10 am on Thursday, January 9, 2025 as the National Funeral Service for President Jimmy Carter begins. Governor Healey previously ordered the United States of America flag and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag to be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings until January 28, 2025 in his honor.

“President Carter always put others first. He dedicated his life to protecting human rights and working toward peace. We all have something to learn from his compassion, grace and moral clarity,” said Governor Healey. “I’m asking the people and businesses of Massachusetts to join me in observing a moment of silence at 10 am on Thursday to reflect on President Carter’s incredible legacy of service and ask ourselves how we can contribute to making our world more caring and just.”
