Boston — Governor Maura Healey issued the following statement on the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, during which the terrorist organization killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, including American citizens:

“Today is the first day of Sukkot – a time that is supposed to be about joy and peace for our Jewish community. But it comes with the dark cloud of the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ horrific, unprovoked attack on the people of Israel. My heart is with our Jewish community, who have shown us over and over again throughout history that even in fragile times, we can find strength in faith and community. Today, as we honor the innocent lives lost, we renew our call for the return of all hostages and lasting peace in the region.”
