Boston — Governor Maura Healey has ordered the United States of America flag and Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag to be flown at half-staff today in memory of those killed in Hamas’ attack on Israel one year ago today, October 7, 2023.

“One year ago today, the terrorist group Hamas launched a horrific, indefensible attack on the people of Israel, as well as hundreds of Americans peacefully living there. Since that day, terror, grief and trauma have continued to reverberate throughout the Jewish community, coupled with a rise in antisemitism and hate both here in Massachusetts and across the globe,” said Governor Healey. “Each step of the way, I have been inspired by the resilience of Massachusetts’ Jewish community, which has come together with kindness and compassion to support each other in the face of unspeakable tragedy. Today, our hearts are heavy for those who have lost loved ones at the hands of Hamas. We remain resolute in our commitment to working toward the release of the remaining hostages and peace in the region.”
