At HomeFront Strong, the Connects Program brings veterans, service members, and military families together through the power of connection. Trained, military-connected volunteers serve as the backbone of this initiative, offering peer support, facilitating storytelling, and creating community through regular gatherings.

Every connection is rooted in kindness. Whether volunteers lend an empathetic ear, help a veteran work toward a personal goal, or deliver a box of food, they provide more than just assistance—they offer a vital link to resources and a sense of belonging.

Volunteers work closely with veterans and military family members through the Storytelling Program to process their experiences and shape their service stories. These stories, shared according to the storyteller’s wishes, preserve military heritage, bridge cultural and communication gaps, and create lasting bonds.

All HomeFront Strong volunteers receive expert training and ongoing support to ensure their work makes a meaningful impact. That impact is profound—not just for those they serve but also for the volunteers themselves.

Just this fall, a 95-year-old World War II veteran and his storytelling volunteer began meeting weekly. What started as an effort to record his life story has become even deeper: a profound friendship across generations. Together, they have spent hours reflecting on service, family, and resilience—exploring what it means to leave a legacy and how to make the most of the time we have.
