John Morahan, an Orleans District Court Probation Officer, passed away on June 6, 2024, following a brief illness.
“He worked tirelessly to help those less fortunate than himself to improve their lives,” said Orleans District Court Chief Probation Officer R Wayne Chase who worked with him for the past 24 years.
“John would walk a mile and half in the woods just to bring his clients and the homeless living there food, sleeping blankets, tents, and supplies. It’s not because they are in trouble. He wants to help them and make sure they are ok,” said Sara Veiga, an Orleans District Probation Officer and Mr. Morahan’s colleague.
In addition to serving the Cape community in his role as probation officer, Mr. Morahan also volunteered for FORWARD, an organization on Cape Cod, building homes for people with autism and related disorders. Mr. Morahan’s impactful work and dedication were highlighted in a 2023 episode of WCVB-TV's “Five for Good." The full story can be viewed on WCVB-TV's website.
During the “Five for Good” story, Mr. Morahan’s client recalls how his probation officer saved his life.
“He’s been more like a father figure. He’s gone above and beyond helping me and countless other people out.”
“We are all deeply saddened by John’s loss. He impacted so many lives in such a positive way and he did it all humbly. We will truly miss him and his always calm, considerate, reassuring demeanor and especially the way he helped so many people overcome their challenges,” said Chief Chase.
