In 2023, the Town of Abington received a generous donation of a 2012 Mobility Ventures MV-1 — a wheelchair-accessible vehicle intended to provide free transportation for local veterans and surviving spouses to and from medical appointments.

When the vehicle developed a persistent electrical problem that rendered it unusable, hope for the program’s success began to fade. After several failed attempts to fix the issue, the team reached out to Jim Stone, proprietor of Abington Sunoco, for help.

Jim immediately stepped up. Over four months, he and his team dedicated countless hours to diagnosing and repairing the complex issue that had sidelined the vehicle. Thanks to their expertise and determination, the MV-1 was restored to full working order — and Jim refused to accept any payment for his time.

Going above and beyond, Jim also donated $500 in Uber gift cards to ensure veterans and widows could access transportation while repairs were underway. His generosity didn’t end there: Jim and his team continue to care for the vehicles of veterans and widows in Abington, often providing service free of charge or at deeply discounted rates.

Jim Stone’s actions embody the true meaning of community service — compassion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to those who have served. Thanks to his efforts, Abington’s veterans and their families can travel safely and with dignity.
