PITTSFIELD — The preliminary results of an autopsy on a Pittsfield woman indicate she died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Dr. Robert Welton, an Associate Medical Examiner for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, conducted the autopsy on 22 year old ASIYANNA JONES this afternoon in Holyoke and has ruled the death a homicide.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the death of JONES and ask anyone who may have information to contact the Pittsfield Police Department Detective Bureau at (413) 448-9705.
At approximately 10:45 Monday night members of the Pittsfield Police Department responded to a report of gun shots fired in the vicinity 242 Dewey Avenue. They found 22 year old ASIYANNA JONES inside a motor vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. JONES was transported to Berkshire Medical Center, in Pittsfield, and then flown to Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield, for treatment of her injury. She was pronounced dead about 4 a.m. Tuesday.
The investigation is being conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department with assistance from the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department, State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, members of the Berkshire Law Enforcement Task Force, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Massachusetts State Police Firearms Identification Section.
