PO Conlin and ACPO Ruiz were recognized for their volunteer work in the Marcia and Fred Altman Career Planning and Exploration Program. The Altman program provides both a four- and eight-week career development program for at-risk youth and young adults in the Lawrence area. The program, which has received commendations from the State House of Representatives and the Governor, features career literacy, self-awareness, and introduces such skills as resume and cover letter writing, interview tips, application assistance, and networking.
PO Conlin, ACPO Ruiz, and PO Scott Goodof serve on the Treasure Chest’s advisory board. The Treasure Chest’s Community Service Coordinator is retired Lawrence Juvenile Probation Officer Tim Meyers, whom Worcester Juvenile Chief Probation Officer Kimberly Lawrence describes as a “local legend for his charitable work and humility.” Chief Lawrence previously served as Essex Juvenile Court First ACPO. Retired Juvenile Court Judge Mark Newman was also recognized at the event.
The Treasure Chest’s website describes its mission as an organization that helps “families at risk by creating opportunities for children in the Merrimack Valley reach their potential and help low- income families access resources for success.” Debbie’s Treasure Chest is a non-profit organization serving Lawrence and the Merrimack Valley by providing clothing and toys for children and families in need.
