Lawrence, Massachusetts — A 21-year old Lawrence man was held without bail following his arraignment in Lawrence District Court today on rape, kidnapping and assault charges in connection with two separate and unrelated attacks.  His release on an open case, in which he is charged with Extortion, Distribution of Obscene Matter and Threats, was revoked.

Angel Mateo is charged with Rape of a Child with Force and Kidnapping in connection with the alleged rape and kidnapping of a 13-year old girl while she was walking to school yesterday morning.  Following the news coverage of that incident, Lawrence Police were contacted by a 27-year old woman who believed Mateo was the man who had allegedly attacked her on May 28, 2016.  The woman had reported the attack at the time that it occurred.  Mateo is charged with Assault with Intent to Rape and Assault and Battery in connection with that incident.

Essex Assistant District Attorney Laura Barletta represented the Commonwealth.  Judge Mark Sullivan presided.

Mr. Mateo is represented by Attorney Ronald Ranta and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.  All three of Mr. Mateo’s cases are scheduled for a Pre-Trial Conference on November 8, 2016.
