LAWRENCE — A 24-year-old has been identified as the man who was fatally shot in Lawrence late Friday night, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announced.

Christopher Garcia of Lawrence suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen before he was pronounced deceased at Lawrence General Hospital.

This remains an active investigation and further details will be released in the future.

The Lawrence Police Department received a series of 911 calls just before midnight Friday, reporting shots fired and a man down in the area of 216 Walnut Street.

Responding officers found Garcia suffering from a gunshot wound.

The shooting is under investigation by members of the Essex County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit and detectives from the Lawrence Police Department.
