Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe announced today that on July 24, 2019, following a two day jury trial in Barnstable District Court, James Lawrence (d.o.b. 10/31/1967) of South Yarmouth, was found guilty of two counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
The Honorable Judge Therese Wright sentenced Lawrence to 2 ½ years in the house of correction, 18 months to serve, with the balance suspended for 5 years on count 1 and 5 years probation to run concurrent on count 2. Lawrence is ordered to register as a sex offender, complete a sex offender counseling evaluation and comply with treatment, stay away and have no contact with children under 16 and stay off of the internet and social media.
The charges stem from incidents occurring in February and December of 2015, where the defendant uploaded and emailed child pornography to himself. One photograph consisted of a collage of images, depicting a child, approximately 4-6 years old, engaged in sexual acts. The other photographs consisted of a prepubescent child portrayed in poses involving a lewd exhibition of unclothed genitals and breasts.
The case was investigated by Trooper Robert Smith of the Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crime Unit and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jessica M. Croker.
