Press Release  Loftus sent to jail after pleading guilty

PITTSFIELDA Pittsfield man pleaded guilty this morning in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges. 37 year old JOSEPH T. LOFTUS appeared before Judge John Agostini.

LOFTUS pleaded guilty to one (1) count of KIDNAPPING, one (1) count of ARMED ROBBERY, one (1) count of LARCENY OVER $250, one (1) count of INTIMIDATION OF A WITNESS OR OTHER PERSON and one (1) count of IDENTITY FRAUD. Judge Agostini ordered that he serve a 2 and a half year sentence at the Berkshire County House of Correction on the charge of INTIMIDATION OF A WITNESS OR OTHER PERSON. LOFTUS was given a 2 and a half year house of correction sentence, to be served on and after the first sentence, on the IDENTITY FRAUD charge. Judge Agostini also placed him on 1 year probation on the other charges on the condition LOFTUS have no contact with the victim and undergo drug testing during the probationary period.

The incident occurred in Pittsfield on December 14, 2016 and involved a 53 year old woman.

One (1) count of FRAUDULENT USE OF A CREDIT CARD was dismissed at the request of the Commonwealth.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.

(Note: LOFTUS will serve 5 years at the Berkshire County House of Correction.)
