Abington is home to many outstanding local businesses, and few shine brighter than Mal’s Kitchen. Since opening in October 2022, the restaurant has become a community favorite—earning the 2024 Metro South Community’s Choice Awards for both Best Breakfast and Best Brunch, and later being recognized by Google in 2025 as Best Breakfast Restaurant.

But what truly sets Mal LaPointe, the owner and heart behind Mal’s Kitchen, apart is her generosity and community spirit. When asked if she could provide 110 meals for Abington’s veterans and their families for Christmas 2024, she didn’t hesitate to say yes. Mal volunteered her time, talent, and kitchen to make it happen, ensuring that local veterans could enjoy a warm, home-cooked holiday meal.

Thanks to a generous contribution from the Veterans Discretionary Fund, 50 of those meals were also delivered to Meals on Wheels recipients throughout the town—spreading even more comfort and joy during the holiday season.

Mal’s kindness and dedication remind us what community truly means. Her support of Abington’s veterans reflects the same care and compassion that make her restaurant a local treasure. Thank you, Mal, for feeding both hearts and stomachs during the holiday season.
