BOSTON, MA — Maria J. Krokidas has been designated by Governor Charles D. Baker to serve as Chair of the State Ethics Commission. Chair Krokidas, who was appointed to the Commission by Governor Baker in October 2016, succeeds the Hon. Barbara A. Dortch-Okara (ret.) as Commission Chair.
Chair Krokidas, a founder of the law firm Krokidas & Bluestein, has more than 40 years of experience representing for-profit, non-profit and public entities in real estate, finance and corporate matters. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Mount Holyoke College and a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School.
The State Ethics Commission is a non-partisan, independent state agency charged with enforcing the conflict of interest law, G.L. c. 268A, and the financial disclosure law, G.L. c. 268B. The Commission is composed of five Commissioners who are appointed to serve staggered, five-year terms. Three Commissioners are appointed by the Governor, one of whom is designated by the Governor as Commission Chair. The Secretary of the Commonwealth and the Attorney General each appoint one Commission member. No more than three Commissioners, and no more than two of the Governor’s appointees to the Commission, may be from the same political party.
