WAKEFIELD — The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine recently took disciplinary action against the medical license of Boris Bergus, M.D., and Donald C. Schiermer, M.D.

In a Final Decision & Order, the Board revoked the license to practice medicine of Dr. Boris Bergus after it found that he engaged in conduct that places into question his competence to practice medicine, committed malpractice when performing cosmetic surgery on four Massachusetts patients, maintained inadequate medical records for those patients, and was disciplined by the Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline for reasons substantially similar to which Massachusetts can impose discipline.  Dr. Bergus was licensed to practice medicine on July 24, 1991 and previously owned practices operating out of Southborough and Norwood, Massachusetts.  He was also licensed in Rhode Island, New Jersey, and held licenses in Illinois, Maryland, New Hamshire and Virginia.

The Board accepted Dr. Donald C. Schiermer’s resignation of his right to renew his medical license. Resignation is a disciplinary action that permanently removes a physician from the practice of medicine. Dr. Schiermer was licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth from October 7, 2009 until his license lapsed on April 7, 2026.  Dr. Schiermer was also licensed in New York, Connecticut and New Hampshire.

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine licenses more than 50,000 physicians, osteopaths and acupuncturists.  The Board was created in 1894 to protect the public health and safety by setting standards for the practice of medicine and ensuring that doctors who practice in the Commonwealth are appropriately qualified and competent. The Board investigates complaints and determines sanctions. More information is available at www.mass.gov/massmedboard, or you may contact the Board at borimmediamassmail.state.ma.us.
