Press Release  Massachusetts Department of Correction Opens Reintegration House at MCI-Framingham

FRAMINGHAM — The Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC) today announced the opening of the Reintegration House at MCI-Framingham, a pre-release residence designed to help women build the skills, relationships and support systems they need for a successful return to their communities. Women living in the residence will participate in structured programming focused on daily living skills, employment readiness, family reunification and personal development while receiving support from clinicians, correctional staff and reentry specialists. Activating this dedicated space advances the DOC’s five-year Align Initiative and reflects the Administration's commitment to reducing recidivism, strengthening families and improving public safety. 

“Massachusetts continues to be a leader in recidivism reduction because of our collective focus on increasing sustainable pathways of successful reentry,” said Secretary of Public Safety and Security Gina Kwon. “The Reintegration House builds on that commitment by preparing women with skills and support systems needed to successfully return to the community. On behalf of the Healey-Driscoll Administration, I commend Commissioner Jenkins and the DOC’s team for developing new opportunities for those entrusted to their care to become contributing members of a safer, stronger Commonwealth.” 

“The Reintegration House is another building block the DOC will use to strengthen the success of individuals when they return home,” said DOC Commissioner Shawn Jenkins. “By creating an environment where participants perform normal daily tasks, individuals gain confidence and feel supported as they prepare for release. This initiative strengthens the DOC’s ongoing efforts to reduce recidivism and build safer communities.” 

The Reintegration House reflects a modern approach to corrections that recognizes successful reentry begins before release. The minimum security facility that will provide structured programming for five to twelve women to prepare them for successful reentry. Through a structured weekly schedule, residents will participate in programming focused on personal responsibility, daily living skills, employment readiness and relationship building while receiving support from clinicians, Correction Program Officers, the Department's Reentry Services Unit and the Pathfinder Program.  

In addition to the Reintegration House, DOC also renovated an adjacent building into a dedicated programming center, creating a welcoming space for family visitation and family reunification, educational opportunities, and other activities that strengthen each individual’s support network before release.  

As part of the Align Initiative, the Department will continue expanding reentry opportunities and promoting health and well-being. Through increased programming, stronger family engagement and individualized support, the initiative helps prepare individuals for long-term success while improving outcomes for communities across Massachusetts.
