BostonMassachusetts Probation Service Commissioner Edward J. Dolan was recognized by the Massachusetts Office of Victim Assistance (MOVA) with an Access to Justice Award during the 2018 Victim Rights Month Awards Ceremony held Monday, April 9, at the Massachusetts State House.

During Dolan’s tenure as MPS commissioner, he has overseen the establishment of the Victim Services Unit comprised of five Victim Services Coordinators managed by a statewide supervisor. The MOVA-funded unit has delivered critical services and support to more than 4,000 victims and survivors annually, according to Dolan. At Monday’s ceremony, Dolan was acknowledged for his more than three decades of commitment to victims and survivors while employed as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Parole Board and as the Commissioner of the Department of Youth Services (DYS).

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healy, who also serves as the MOVA Board Chairperson, said upon presenting Dolan with the award, “Commissioner Dolan has been a great partner and has been on the frontlines for a long time. I am so proud to present him with this recognition, the Access to Justice Award.”

Dolan acknowledged Deputy Commissioner of Field Services Dianne Fasano, Statewide Victim Services Director Corinn Nelson, Chief Justice Paula Carey, and Court Administrator Jonathan Williams as instrumental in the creation and support of the MPS Victim Services Unit. He also acknowledged individuals and agencies engaged in helping victims and survivors as well as MOVA.

He said to MOVA Executive Director Liam Lowney, “Liam, you and your staff have been so supportive. You have provided spiritual, educational, and tangible resources to make this a reality.”

Dolan added, “I cannot think of a constituency that is more deserving of access to justice than survivors and victims of violence.”
