PITTSFIELDThe preliminary results of an autopsy on a Pittsfield man indicate he died from stab wounds to the torso.   

Dr. Rebecca Dedrick, an Associate Medical Examiner for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, conducted the autopsy on 34 year old William Catalano this afternoon in Holyoke and has ruled the death a homicide. 

Catalano was found lying on the sidewalk in front of 219 Robbins Avenue late Monday afternoon.  He was transported to Berkshire Medical Center where he died shortly after 7 p.m. 

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department with assistance from State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Forensic Scientists from the Crime Laboratory and the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department.
