News  Middlesex Superior Court will host a Naturalization Ceremony today

Woburn, MA — Middlesex Superior Court will host a Naturalization Ceremony at the courthouse, located at 200 Tradecenter Drive in Woburn, on Wednesday, October 26, at 11 am. where 31 men and women are scheduled to take an Oath of Allegiance to become American Citizens.This ceremony is one of hundreds of events taking place across the state as part of the Massachusetts Trial Court’s Sixth Annual Cultural Appreciation Week, October 24-28. This year’s theme is “Out of Many, We are One = Equal Justice For ALL.” The Trial Court’s Cultural Appreciation Week is a celebration of culture and diversity of court employees, court users, and the residents in communities surrounding the courts.

Chief Justice of the Superior Court Heidi E. Brieger and Regional Administrative Justice Laurence Pierce will preside over the ceremony along with Clerk of Courts Michael Sullivan. The men and women who are scheduled to take the oath hail from Belgium, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Egypt, El Salvador, Finland, France, India, Israel, Kenya, South Korea, Peru, the Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, Sweden, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam. The soon to be new citizens currently reside in the following communities: Acton, Andover, Ayer, Billerica, Boxborough, Burlington, Carlise, Concord, Dracut, Dunstable, Hudson, Lexington, Lowell, Marlborough, Sudbury, Tewksbury, Westford, Wilmington, and Woburn.

The Malden High School Choir will sing “The National Anthem.”

In addition to the Naturalization Ceremony, Middlesex Superior Court is among the courts, court offices and departments, and Community Justice Support Centers (CJSC) that are hosting food and supply drives across the state to assist those struggling financially. Middlesex Superior Court will donate non-perishable food to local charities.

Cultural Appreciation Week was introduced by Pamerson Ifill, Deputy Commissioner of Pretrial Services for the Massachusetts Probation Service. Each year, Deputy Ifill organizes a group of more than 250 court employees called Cultural Proficiency Champions or Champions who coordinate activities that include art exhibits, music, dance, and food tastings that are open to the public. The events also feature speeches by court and local leaders.
