The two-day sporting event took place August 11 - 12 and featured a basketball tournament, races, and Special Olympics events as well as prizes, food, and child-friendly games and activities.

MPS also set up a resource table, located between the Boston Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police tables, where Probation volunteers shared information about the agency such as pamphlets, details on community resources, and MPS job listings at this community engagement event.

The Invitational brings Probation, first responders, law enforcement, youth, and local communities together to commemorate the lives lost during the Boston Marathon tragedy. MPS has participated in this event annually for the past 11 years. Keison Harry, Assistant Chief Probation Officer (ACPO) at the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court (BMC), is the key organizer and coach of the MPS basketball team.

The MPS team included players: Raymond Bernard, Suffolk Probate & Family Probation Officer (PO); Jude David, Training Division Program Manager; Daniel Offutt, Brockton District Court Probation Officer; Horace Blue, Worcester District PO; and Trai Weaver, Esq., Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney.

MPS played the PRO EMS team and beat them 84-52. Next up was the West Bridgewater Police Department who bested the MPS team with a score of 53-61 in pool play. MPS later played West Bridgewater Police Department and won in overtime 53-52 on Sunday, August 11th, day two of the tournament. MPS then played the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department team which won with a score of 60-48 in the semifinals.

I want to thank everyone for coming out on the weekend to support and cheer us on. We appreciate those who joined with us in engaging with the community. I also want to thank the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court for their overwhelming support. It was a great time and a very worthy cause! This tournament will roll around again next year before you know it. If you didn’t get a chance to join us this year, mark your calendar for the second weekend of August in 2025 and come show your support and MPS pride!,” said ACPO Harry.
