News  MPS employees were among key presenters at the American Probation and Parole Association Conference

Six Massachusetts Probation Service staff members were key presenters before a national audience at the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) Conference in Chicago recently.

More than 2,000 community corrections professionals attended the four-day conference: APPA Chicago, the 47th Annual Training Institute.

MPS’ workshop sessions included: “Workforce Diversity and Cultural Competence: The Massachusetts Probation Service” presented by Pamerson Ifill, Deputy Commissioner of Pretrial Services; “The After-Hours Impact: Strategies for an Effective Partnership Between Electronic Monitoring and Victim Services,” co-presented by Courtney Bacon, Assistant Statewide Manger of Victim Services; and Anissa Hannon, Electronic Monitoring (ELMO) Unit Program Manager; "The Best Project You Will Ever Work on is You!,” co-presented by Carmen Gomez, Region 3 Regional Supervisor, and Jennifer Brady, Hingham District Court Chief Probation Officer; and The Takeover: Millennials vs. Everybody,” presented by Jude David, Training Unit Program Manager.

Mr. Ifill spoke about MPS’ commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as its efforts to build a “highly-skilled workforce that is diverse, culturally competent, proficient, and committed to providing quality customer service experiences and outcomes.”

In the ”After Hours Impact” session, Ms. Bacon and Ms. Hannon presented on the “important partnership between ELMO and Victim Services and the enhancement of safety for victims and survivors using real-life scenarios.”

Ms. Gomez and Ms. Brady presented “The Best Project You Will Ever Work on is You!” In this workshop, they spoke about developing a positive mindset “which will carry over to work and home.” “When we work on ourselves, we develop the capacity to be the best version of ourselves at home and at work.” Ms. Brady also presented during APPA's Leadership Institute where she introduced, "The Power of Positivity, Finding Passion and Purpose in all that you do."

Mr. David spoke about the impact of millennials and their use of social media and technology on society as well as the shift in crime as it correlates with probation supervision.
