The Massachusetts Probation Service’s Suffolk County staff had a huge presence at Boston Medical Center’s Returning Citizens Expo where they shared important information on community-based resources.
The Massachusetts Probation Service’s Suffolk County courts and the Boston Community Justice Support Center had a major presence at the Returning Citizen’s Expo held at the Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury on September 24th. This community-based event was hosted by Boston Medical Center.
Probation staff from several of the five Boston Municipal courts as well as the Juvenile and Superior courts.
MPS employees of the Pretrial Services, Sealing and Expungement, Training and Electronic Monitoring (ELMO) Units also represented the agency at this Expo which drew a crowd of more than 450 people. The following staff represented MPS: Sandrine Ribeiro, CARI Coordinator; Willie English, Administrative Coordinator; Christine Velez, Assistant CARI Coordinator; Rhys Malcolm, Assistant CARI Coordinator; Keith Andrews, Assistant ELMO Coordinator; Shawnta Reid and Jameson Dorrine, Pretrial Services Operations Coordinators; Frank Russo, Suffolk Superior Assistant Chief; Susan Conrad, Chief Probation Officer of Boston Municipal Court (BMC)-Roxbury; Ericka Monteiro, First ACPO at BMC-Dorchester; Jude David, Training Unit Program Manager; and Yardley Theolien, Regional Program Manager.
The expo featured more than 100 community agencies and businesses.
“It was a great opportunity to connect with members of the community and share information about the resources we have in Probation,” said Brad McNichols, Region 5 Regional Supervisor.
Senator Liz Miranda, Senator Ed Markey, Trina Martin Cherry, VP, Community Engagement & External Affairs, and Alastair Bell, MD, MBA, and CEO, of the Boston Medical Center Health System, addressed the audience.
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell also attended the event where she introduced Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries.
The event also featured several forums, including a panel discussion on Mental Health and workforce development. Rev. Willie Brodrick moderated the panel which included Mike Curry, Life After Prison; Jay Vilar, Fountain Fund; and Carla B. Monteiro, MSW, LICSW, LADC-I, Boston Medical Center Health System.
Community engagement is a top priority of Probation Commissioner Pamerson Ifill and his Executive Leadership Team.
